TV commercials are everywhere in the current consumerist society. When ads pop up during a TV show, we always seem to see some familiar faces pitching certain products. You may feel you've seen them before without knowing their names. Read on to see if you recognize anyone.
1. Pine-Sol Lady - Diane Amos
Since 1993, Diane Amos has served as the spokesperson for Pine-Sol Cleaners’ commercials. Besides this famous role, Diane is also a stand-up comedian who acts in films and stage plays. Admirably, she also uses her leisure time to do some voluntary jobs in her community. She believes that the smallest acts of charity can greatly help others.
2. State Farm's Jake - Jake Stone
Before playing the role of "Jake from State Farm," Jake Stone was an insurance agent. He accidentally got a chance to attend a casting call for State Farm employees. He was selected to fly to California and shot several scenes for the commercial when he was just 26. The ad immediately went viral when it first aired, and he has become familiar to the public ever since.
3. Geico's Caveman - John Lehr
Looking at these two versions of John Lehr, there should be no surprise that it's difficult to recognize him after he portrayed the caveman in the Geico commercials. Many of us may be familiar with his look of the caveman, but seldom see his real face under the special effects makeup. Actually, he is also an actor and has appeared in a number of films and television series, such as 10 Items or Less.
4. Progressive Insurance's Flo - Stephanie Courtney
Stephanie Courtney, as Progressive Insurance's Flo, seems to be everywhere in our lives. When people think of Progressive Insurance, her face will instantly spring to mind. In fact, Stephanie plays a role in not just this TV commercial, but also many other TV shows. However, we find it pretty distracting seeing her familiar face on any other show.
5. AT&T's 'It's Not Complicated' Guy - Beck Bennett
Beck Bennett is known for the AT&T "It's Not Complicated" campaign. He is also a talented actor, and he has delivered many excellent performances in a lot of films including Greener Grass, Intramural, The Unicorn, Beside Still Waters and Dean, etc. He is also a cast member on Saturday Night Live, which is a staple for comedy fans.
6. AT&T's Mom - Geneva Carr
Many people got to know Geneva Carr from her role in a famous AT&T television commercial. Geneva Carr played the mom of two teen sons and the wife of a laid-back husband. Her performance in the ad is impressive, and she is also an accomplished actress in her own right, who has performed in Hand to God on Broadway and the hugely popular play Rabbit Hole.
7. Toyota's Jan - Laurel Coppock
Talented performers often show their acting skills in a number of different areas. As well as portraying Jan in a television well-known Toyota commercial, Laurel Coppock is also an excellent actress and accomplished comedian who has appeared in many movies such as Crazy, Stupid, Love. When we watch her other films, it's hard to remember her for the role of Jan because her accomplished performances almost make us forget her famous ad role.
8. Dodge Man - Edward Herrmann
Edward Herrmann had a close connection with automobiles since a very young age. He was a longtime automotive enthusiast and restorer of classic cars. Besides being the voice of Dodge, he was also a host of the TV show "Automobiles" on The History Channel. He always used an easy but professorial tone to pitch different kinds of cars, and we’re sure he helped to sell plenty of them.
9. Verizon's 'Can You Hear Me Now?' Dude - Paul Marcarelli
Paul Marcarelli is an American actor who is best known for his role as the test man in Verizon commercials from 2002 to 2011. In this ad, he always wears a gray Verizon jacket and his own horn-rimmed glasses. As a result of this character, Entertainment Weekly named him as one of the most intriguing people of 2002.
10. Allstate's Mr. Mayhem - Dean Winters
Dean Winters is an accomplished American actor, and known for his role as Ryan O'Reily in the HBO prison drama, Oz. In June 2010, Dean was introduced as Mr. Mayhem, a recurring character in a new television and radio advertising campaign for Allstate Insurance, and he spent about a decade playing this character.
11. Allstate Man - Dennis Haysbert
Dennis Haysbert is an American actor and voice actor. His famous work is being the spokesman for Allstate Insurance. His advertising slogan is: "That's Allstate's stand. Are you in good hands?" He is also known for his lead roles in many films and television shows, such as the Major League film trilogy and the political thriller film Absolute Power.
12. T-Mobile Girl - Carly Foulkes
Carly Foulkes is a successful Canadian model and actress, who became known for appearing in a series of T-Mobile television commercials by wearing a sleeveless pink dress. She was also the spokeswoman for other T-Mobile ads where she was depicted as a pink-and-black leather-clad biker girl. Hence, she is always colloquially called T-Mobile Girl.
13. Old Spice's 'Man Your Man Could Smell Like' - Isaiah Mustafa
Isaiah Mustafa is an American actor and a former American football wide receiver. In February 2010, he gained sudden fame in a popular series of Old Spice television commercials, the Man Your Man Could Smell Like, which were famous for his monologues. The series of commercials is so popular that it is even played in movie theatres.
14. Ocean Spray Guys - Henry Strozier And Justin Hagan
The performances of Henry Strozier and Justin Hagan in the Ocean Spray television commercials are impressive. Sometimes, we really think these two guys hanging out in the cranberry bogs are actually harvesting our cranberries for the juice. However, they are just actors in the commercials, and they have also made many other notable appearances, like in the TV show The Good Wife.
15. Sonic Guys - Peter Grosz And T. J. Jagodowski
Peter Grosz and T. J. Jagodowski are two accomplished American comedians and actors. Starting from 2004, they were the main characters in Sonic ad campaigns. The most iconic scene is where they sit in the front seats of a car and randomly talk about the well known food and desserts in the Sonic Drive-In.
16. Pepsi Girl - Hallie Eisenberg
Hallie Eisenberg is a former American actress, best known for being "The Pepsi Girl" in a series of Pepsi commercials during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Then, she made her film debut in the children's film Paulie. However, she later halted her pursuit of a film career and attended college in 2010. We will miss her lovely face!
17. Subway Guy - Jared Fogle
Jared Scott Fogle is a former American spokesperson for Subway restaurants. His road to fame was interesting due to his significant weight loss attributed to eating Subway sandwiches. Then, he successfully became a spokesperson for Subway's advertising campaigns from 2000 to 2015.
18. FedEx's Micro Machines Man - John Moschitta Jr.
Rapid speech speed cannot be easily imitated by anyone! This is the unique skill of John Moschitta Jr., an American actor and spokesman, who is known for his rapid speech delivery and holding the title of "World's Fastest Talker" in the world record. He appeared in over 100 commercials as "The Micro Machines Man" including a 1981 ad for FedEx.
19. Jenny Craig Lady - Valerie Bertinelli
Valerie Bertinelli is an American actress and television personality. She was a spokesperson for the Jenny Craig program and appeared in several commercials. Interestingly, although she received a lot of benefits from this ad campaign program, she considers herself a health and weight-loss activist first and foremost rather than a hired weight-loss spokesperson for commercial purposes.
20. Isuzu's Joe Isuzu - David Leisure
David Leisure is an American actor who played the fictional automotive "pitch man" Joe Isuzu in a series of North American television commercials for Isuzu during the 20th century. He has some other accomplished performances under his belt as well, such as the role of Charley Dietz in the sitcom Empty Nest from 1988 to 1995.
